Palace Pearls of Wisdom

Palace Pearls of Wisdom at Banqueting House brought together a collection of the best suppliers in the industry. It was an afternoon in one of London’s Historic Royal Palaces that saw the Pear & Pearl website come to life. The Banqueting House and Pearl & Pear teams showcased beautiful event spaces as well as hosting workshops. The aim was to deliver invaluable events related skills and business tips that guests can apply to your working life.

Welcome to Palace Pearls of Wisdom

The afternoon began in the Palace’s Undercroft, welcoming guests to fruity mocktails and a first glimpse of what to expect from the day. Calligraphy adorned speech bubbles hung beautifully from two vintage ladders, a creative way to invite guests to find their name – and an Instagrammable moment! A selection of stunning furniture was showcased by Great Hire and vintage props from Locate to Create.

The Humble Vegetable – A Rhubarb Lunch

Guests were welcomed with an afternoon drinks reception and artistic lunch. Food stations were filled with a colourful collection of vegetable inspired dishes for guests to help themselves.

To create an immersive culinary experience Rhubarb‘s chefs wow’d all with a ‘painted food station’. Brush strokes of toppings, intricately pieced bitesize treats as well as the humble vegetable created a masterpiece – that you were allowed to eat!

The Big Reveal

After lunch, guests were invited up to the Main Hall for the grand reveal. Sternberg Clarke provided a three-piece roaming band, playing a soulful collection of melodies, to guide guests through the Palace. Once through the decadent doors of the Main Hall guests were greeted by an array of beautiful suppliers.

Great Hire continued the luxurious look and feel upstairs. They showcased their new collection of soft-furnishings, including gorgeous studded armchairs and velvet sofas.

WowGrass launched a new hire item available this year – a real grass photo wall! The look, and smell, portrayed the magic that WowGrass piece together with their soil-free turf. Locate to Create enhanced the photobooth area with vintage suitcases, crates and delicate props. To finish off, Philippa Craddock added a regal display of flowers arching across the top combined with golden pears.

Bringing the outside in

Twilight Trees are known for creating beautifully illuminated trees. Positioned at the Palace entrance two maple trees arched across the reception, glistening with LEDs. As well as a showcase of the original Twilight collection, Pearls of Wisdom showcased the new “Trees in Green” for the first time. Two decadent Hysteria trees stood tall in the Main Hall. Towering 3m above, the branches reach out to form stunning centrepieces for a grand venue space. For extra sparkle the branches were decorated with glistening gold pears and bronze uplighters.

To increase social engagement a table top tree was decorated with social media tags, intricately crafted by The Styled Writing Company. Beautiful grosgrain ribbon bows tied loosely created the perfect Instagram-story moment.

A Pearl & Pear Gift

In collaboration with The Styled Writing Company, personalised notebooks were gifted to guests to inspire note taking and a gorgeous momento from the day. For an extra treat, HRP Events intricately placed golden pens on top for added sparkle!

Tablescaping with Philippa Craddock

As well as providing gorgeous floristry displays across the venue, guests were invited to an exclusive tablescaping workshop with British lifestyle florists Philippa Craddock. Tablescaping has been fiercely growing across the industry and the team’s top tips were note-worthy. Guests were given an array of flowers, foliage and table pieces including cutlery, glassware and menus. The challenge was to build an inspiring tablescape together whilst learning what works, and what doesn’t, from the industry’s expert.

The final result was simply stunning!

Creating an impact with AV by White Light

Audio visual (AV) and event production can be tricky minefields during creative briefs and venue builds. White Light were the experts for tech and stage sets throughout the day as well as an informative discussion and how to create an impact. Challenging topics including high spec equipment and tech jargon were introduced as well as examples for venue transformations and lighting.

Calligraphy and Event Branding with The Styled Writing Co. and Mophy Design Studio

Founders Henrietta and Sophie collaborated together to showcase the world of event branding and techniques of design. After short introductions and inspirational case studies guests were able to try their hand at calligraphy. Flicks and and twirls were practiced with individual calligraphy sets to allow guests to take away their own creations. Some might say it’s harder than it looks!

An afternoon with Industry Experts

Once workshops had come to a finish, guests were invited to take their seats for the afternoon’s first panel discussion. The stage hosted four industry experts showcasing their top tips and experience to answer an important question – “how to win a pitch”. The discussion opened interesting topics and provided first-hand experiences on how to win, what not to do and striking case studies.

The panel included four individuals, all with invaluable experience in the industry. First to introduce was Sarah Kay, co-founder of Pearl & Pear and founder of bespoke events agency The Edit. Secondly, Sophie Browning, founder and creative mastermind of Mophy Design Studio. Next, Max Fellows, head of Client Services and pitching expert from Clive Agency. Lastly, but no means least, Liz Young, Head of Events at Historic Royal Palaces, a collection of London’s most prestigious venues.

Shooting for Instagram – a workshop by Holly Clark and Peter Kerwood

As well as an industry experts panel discussion, guests were joined by two social media gurus. Holly Clark, international wedding and events photographer and Peter Kerwood, social media expert and founder of Marketing Superstore.

The afternoon workshop was overwhelmed with popularity as the entire event took their seats. Holly and Peter shared exclusive tips and mind-blowing apps to edit photos and track analytics. They shared their best advice to make your Instagram instantaneously more appealing. As well as showcasing apps, Peter discussed key statistics to consider for social media profiles. A must have to be seen against the wave of profiles available. It was a must-see for those looking for business profile enhancement and personal!

A concluding guest speaker

To conclude the afternoon, a special guest took to the stage to share her story. Fashion entrepreneur and charity founder Emma Willis described her journey to success. Her stories portrayed great pride and talent within her business ethos, bringing a close to a motivational and inspirational afternoon.

WowGrass‘ photo opportunity

Before descending to the Undercroft for the after-party, guests chose their props and posed infront of the real grass wall for a photo – it smelt as good as it looked! It’s now available for hire at private and corporate events.

The After-Party!

To celebrate the afternoon’s success the sparkling wine was flowing in the Palace’s undercroft. Once again Rhubarb pieced together an outstanding canapés selection on top of exquisite serving trays. A variety of options were available including mac’n’cheese truffle balls, prawn burgers and delicious crab tacos.

No party would be complete without fizz! Coates and Seely are known for their sparkling wines and ‘combination of the best of traditional winemaking techniques with the grace and precision of modern technology’. Guests were treated to the delicious collection of wines available throughout the night.

Sternberg Clarke provided first-class entertainment as well as a LED DJ booth showcasing the artwork of all sponsors from the afternoon.

In conclusion, as well as a plentiful amount of fizz, guests were introduced to the exclusive Pearl & Pear cocktail. Served throughout the night, ice cold and with a slice of pear for decoration – perfect!
